The two basic options for hot tub heaters are time controlled and temperature controlled. Before you make the decision between them, or the third option, a combination hot tub heater, you have to really understand the differences between them and what you will be getting when you make the purchase of one.
Temperature controlled heaters
The first type of hot tub heater is the kind that is controlled by temperature. This means that once the water temperature has reached a particular temperature, the heater shuts itself down automatically. For many people this is a great option because the water will never reach a dangerous or uncomfortable degree of heat; once it reaches the threshold it will safely and automatically turn itself off.
Some temperature controlled models allow you to choose from several different preset temperature choices. With others you can manually enter the temperature of your choosing and still others may only have one hotness setting. The general rule of thumb is that the more expensive the unit, the more choices you’ll have at your disposal for getting the exact temperature level you were looking for.
Timer controlled hot tub heater
Hot tub heaters that operated through the use of a timer have become much less popular than temperature controlled models. This is because they offer a less precise control over how hot the water gets, and they can be more dangerous. While they shut down automatically after a set amount of time, the water could become too hot before then and it won’t turn off until the timer completes itself.
Hot tub heaters that offer both time and temperature control
The best type of hot tub heater is that which works with both temperature control as well as on a timer. The more safety features that are incorporated into a hot tub heater, the better the heater. When you are using the hot tub for the first time, be sure to set the heater to low heat. You should also talk to your doctor if you have an underlying condition that can be affected by the strong heat in the hot tub, although most doctors will recommend this type of hydrotherapy. Look for a hot tub heater that offers as many safety features as possible for the best results when it comes to your hot tub experience.
