Capital Gains Tax Bracket for 2009, 2010

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Capital Gains tax applies if you have a profit when you sell a capital asset, which would include property such as: Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Fund Shares and Real Estate. Your tax rate for a capital gains tax is based on whether your gain was short term or long term.

Short-Term Gain:

A short term gain is when your holding period was less than a year. For example If you bought stock on May 4, 2008 your holding period would begin on May 5th. The end of your first year would be May 4, 2009. If you sold before or on that day it would be a short term gain.

For 2009 and 2010 short term gains are taxed at your maximum tax rate just like your salary, up to 35%.

Long-term Gain:

A long term gain would be when your holding period was more than a year. Using the example above for a short term gain, if you sold your Bond on May 5, 2009 this would be considered a long term gain.

For 2009 and 2010 long term gains are taxed at either 0% or 15%. The 0% tax is set to expire at the end of the year in 2010.

Also keep in mind that your capital gain is subject to state income tax as well as the federal capital gains tax. Depending on the state you live in your capital gains may be taxed as either a state capital gains, or as ordinary income.

Is It Cheaper To Clean In-House Or Employ Professional Office Cleaners?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

We need to cut back drastically on our business costs! Don’t you know the world is facing a credit crunch? I need to chop some expenses from our budget!

Do we need to outsource so much? What about using our own staff for office cleaning in Aberdeen? Could we save money by doing the cleaning ourselves? What would be involved?

Staff morale would be one important issue to be considered. How are they going to be feeling when they have this extra task dropped on them when they may have enough to do already? Even if they did not start looking for other work straight away are there any other issues we need to look at?

Firstly you will need to start buying a number of different cleaning chemicals and some equipment on a fairly regular basis and hope you don’t run out if people are using too much. Who is going to take responsibility for going out to buy more cleaning products when levels run low or are all used up? This is a cost implication for time spent and time not doing their normal job!The professional cleaning service in Aberdeen will already have a stock of their own professional grade cleaning products that are used for a number of jobs.

You may decide to employ an extra person to do the cleaning thus doing away with some of the savings but if you are considering using your existing staff you need to calculate into the process the lost opportunities for staff doing their “normal job”. Will that suffer if they are asked to do these extras and at what cost to your business?

The job may even need doing twice if the person is not shown exactly the right way to do the task. You also need to consider whether using an existing staff member is the best use of their time. They definitely will not be using the expertise that caused you to initially select them at the interview or spent time since developing their new skills for the job. How much did it cost you to train that person in real terms not just the cost of the training programme?

Consider the cost of mistakes when untrained people are cleaning your premises. Will someone try to remove a mark from a painted wall and remove the paint as well. Additional cost of repainting the wall! I heard about a receptionist /admin person who poured concentrated bleach on a floor to clean it and burnt off the top surface. That was a very expensive mistake to make. Will you be budgeting for additional repairs caused by trying to save money? There is also the danger of mixing cleaning chemicals e.g. some toilet cleaners when mixed together generate considerable amounts of heat and poisonous gases.

• Do you have full access to all the relevant Health and Safety procedures for all the cleaning jobs to be carried out?
• Do you know enough about the role to do a professional Risk Assessment as required by law?
• Do you have copies of the COSHH data sheets for every single cleaning product your staff purchase in the event of an incident? Your local superstore will not supply them for the general household products they sell!| Can you be certain that you have the required COSSH safety data sheets for every single cleaning product your staff purchase? Your local supermarket or corner store will not be able to supply these legal documents and you will need them on site in case of an safety incident.}

If the choice was down to me as an office manager I would be asking myself the following questions

• ” Will I lose more money by taking staff away from the main business focus than I pay to use a professional cleaning company”

• “What is the cost of not doing the job properly and having to repeat the work, do expensive repairs or facing legal issues over health and safety? ”

Given the option of mistakes it certainly can work out cheaper to employ good professional cleaning company in Coatbridge in the long run.

Wii Bundles- The Best Suited Wii Bundle For My Grandson

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Well it is that time of year again. Yes you have guessed it! It is the holiday season. My grandson has asked me to get him something that I have found to be quite hard to find this year.

My grandson came to me and told me that he wanted a wii bundle this year. So naturally I went right out the next day to try and find one. The sales people at Walmart actually laughed at me. I was in for it now. I had to find one of these for my grandson I just had too.

After exhausting all options, as far as finding one in a store goes, I thought that maybe I could find one online. I looked at all of the retail stores websites and they all said the same thing. Out of stock online. What am I going to do? I decided that while I had the Internet up that I would just go Google wii bundles. I saw many places that caught my eye, and finally found one with a wide selection at affordable prices.

I looked down the lists of the different bundles that they offer and I was very amazed. I could not only get the wii, but I could also get games and different remotes that come with it. There were just so many to choose from I just was not sure which one my ten year old grandson would like. I asked his mother so he would not suspect anything. She told me that he loves to hunt with his dad. Fortunately, that was enough to go off of.

I went back to the wii bundle website to see what they offered on hunting, and I found one bundle to have three hunting and fishing games. It also came with a gun extender for the wii remote. It was the perfect wii bundle for him!

The price for it all was very reasonable. I am very grateful to these people for helping me give my grandson the perfect gift. I know he’ll love it!
